About Hunter Koala Preservation Society
Formed in June 1987, the Hunter Koala Preservation Society’s aim is to assist with the management and preservation of the Port Stephens koala population. The main impetus for our formation was the continual threat to koalas from impending development and the resultant loss of their habitat.
The Society, together with the National Parks & Wildlife Service, Port Stephens Council, and the Australian Koala Foundation has established a Koala Management Plan for Port Stephens.
The Society maintains a data base of sick and injured koalas and autopsy statistics which aid in assisting us to manage this unique Australian marsupial.
