BINDI 21/12/2012

Picture
Hi Everyone. Bindi was found lying on the boardwalk at LEMON TREE PASSAGE this morning
at
7am bleeding from dog attack wounds. Ray rescued her and delivered her
to
me.  She has severe facial lacerations and punctures to her right side
plus
an  nasty laceration on her RIGHT forearm. She had surgery to repair the
damage
this  morning and has drains in each wound. She survived
  the
surgery quite well, so it's fingers crossed for her to survive
  the
infection. She goes back to Don AT NOAHS ARK VET  on Monday morning for a check.

Bindi has had a
restful night, as you would expect with all the pain MEDICATION on
  board. .
  No wee or
pellets yet. She likes her pumpkin and has no trouble swallowing
  and I think
she did attempt to eat a leaf this morning. I didn't actually
see  her bite
it off but she was chewing away on something. He face seems
swollen  this
morning and I think her head feels like a concrete block
because she  has
trouble holding it up. So I have her propped up with her
face in her  leaf.
Bindi is an old lady.
It's still  early days for Bindi, but she is a tough old girl. Let's
hope
she's tough  enough. SUE

Picture
Bindi went to the vet NOAHS ARK VET on Monday. Fran, Rebecca & Noel took
her as I had
. She has problems with the use of her arms.
She can't
lift  them or use them to reach for her leaf and when she tries to
walk her
RIGHT  front arm collapses under her. The right arm has the dog attack
wound but
the  left arm had no apparent bite injuries. Don found bruising on
the left
arm  and he's diagnosed Radial Nerve Damage in that arm. This will
repair
itself  with time (min 2 weeks). Bindi is OLD  so let's
hope  she doesn't die of old age before her arm repairs
itself. Bindi also
appears  to have nerve damge in the injured side of her
face causing problems
biting  leaf on that side and constant drooling. She
has an app to see Ilona
on  Friday to see if she can help with the arms. She
is in the cage at the
moment  and has her rather large bottom jammed in a
comfy fork and the soft poo she is doing drops to the floor instead of being
stuck all over her
bottom. She  is managing to eat quite well considering,
but you put her leaf
right in her  face. So that involves constantly
rearranging it as she eats,
to keep leaf in  her face. She is also starting
to get cranky and hisses at
me whenever I  reposition her arms, or wash the
green drool off her chin. Her
one joy each  day is her pumpkin. Poor girl.

Miss Bindi went to see
Ilona today AT NOAHS ARK VET. But firstly her mobility in  her front legs has
improved in the last 24 hours. Yesterday I had to put the  hose on her bottom in
the cage because of a poo issue, it was only on trickle  but she objected to the
indignity of a hose on her bum and waved both her arms  at me! If she could have
belted me she would have, but the movements were very  uncoordinated and she
looked more like a puppet out of The Thunder Birds. Then  late last night she
had turned herself around and was facing the opposite  direction. This morning
she was sitting and holding onto her leaf with both  hands. So a major
improvement.
Ilona
thinks she has had a fall as she has symptoms of a head injury, the left side
of  her face has dropped according to Ilona and the blink reflex in her left eye
is  not good. So that would explain why she was on the boardwalk, and the radial
nerve damage. This by the way is not the side of her face with the dog wounds.
So I have to poke her in the eye to get it blinking, massage her arm and take
her back next Fri for more treatment. She didn’t object to the acupuncture pins
as she was busy eating. She did hiss at Ilona when the sutures were removed. So
let’s hope she improves quickly so she can be released and not be tortured for
  weeks. Cheers Sue

Bindi has decided she might move around the cage! She has sat
like a big
pudding in the one spot since going into the cage last Mon and
the most
exciting thing she has done was to turn around. This photo was
taken last
night at 12mn. I had checked on her half an hour before so the
maximum time
she would have been hanging like this is half an hour. She was
trying to
make  it to the other side because I had deliberately put some
Parra over
there to  encourage her. She obviously didn't make it on this
attempt, but
she saved  herself from a fall which is really good. She needed
assistance to
get  upright again and then walked back to her safe corner on
wobbly legs.
This  morning though, she was sitting in her usual place there
was bark and leaves on the floor below the Parra and half of it was gone. So
she has made
a  successful 2nd attempt and survived it. Good girl Bindi! The
soft poo has
stopped and she had 95 pellets which is a record for her, her
leaf eating
has  improved as well with hardly any drooling.
Cheers Sue

Picture
Ilona NOAHS ARK VET suggested that I give Bindi Metacam to see if it was arthritis that was
stopping her from moving. She has been on it for 3 days and hasn't budged. So
Noel & I physically put her in opposite corner of cage and put Nicholii in
other corner. Well she had her fat bottom back in it's usual place quicker than
I could run and get the camera, which by the way was just inside the back door.
She munched on the LEAF for a while and I went out half an hour later and she
had moved to the front of the cage! See photo. So If it is the Metacam that is
helping her mobility we won't be able to release her unless Loreto is going to
climb a tree 4 times to give her an injection.  Sue

BINDI WAS TRANSFERED TO FRANS REHAB BEST OF LUCK SHE NEEDS TO SHOW REAL IMPROVMENT TO BE RELEASED!!!

22/1/2013

Picture
We put her in the smaller
rehab.... That evening at about 11-30 as you know we  found her hanging by one
arm ... We tried the low logs and she did a face plant  onto the cement.. for
goodness sake...

Being  a very determined girl
she managed to climb over everything we had around the  uprights ... a mystery
how she managed but she did ... but we found her up in  the outside fork smiling
down at us ... we gave up after the second time and put  foam under the Guyna
and did the watch again .... We decided she needed to walk  so we took her out
for a walk.... at first she had a few tumbles, stands on her  Right front foot
.... but the more we did it the better she got ... She would  call us every name
possible as we would stop her from escaping but as the days  go on the more use
to us she is becoming ... She gets a special treat at the end  of her walk... a
tit bit from one of Aunty Frans trees that she planted a few  years ago
...
After  her first walk we
noticed a very large burred claw and we removed it ... she did  look as if she
was getting her claw stuck .... still does at times and I am  hoping Llona, on
Friday, might have someway of filing  her claws... I have seen  her pull her leg
and it not move at first then give way so maybe it is a hang  nail type of thing
that I have missed.... That may be how she ended up "
  hanging"....
She  actually seems happy at
the minute and I am hoping that with more walking and  climbing an old lady will
be able to go back home ....
...Fran....

8/2/2013

Picture
bindi has made great improovements and is starting to get back to being a koala.
has even shown some great attitude.
as you can see in the video sometimes a girl has had just enough!!!
cant possibly be the company !!!!!

20/2/2013
Bindi has improoved greatly and now will seek futher treatment with Ilona noahs ark vet

28/2/2013

Picture
Jay is her main walker but of late
she is needing two of us as she is getting  stronger and faster to say nothing
of more cunning. She has been walking every  afternoon for a month, now when she
has had enough she walks herself "home" into  the rehab and up the upright of
her choice, and she does it with  attitude.
When she is walking across the
crosslogs I noticed that she only holds on with her thumbs, she doesn't make a
fist and hold on with her other fingers, arthritis. This has been causing her
to  slip, so off the see the wonderful Ilona today for some more of her magic in
the  hope that she gets some more movement in her hands.
This lovely gentle older lady
needs to be as fit as possible before she is returned back to the habitat at
  Tanilba.

(two weeks left) ... we want to get her  in the best condition possible before

She walks every day some longer
than others ... lately she has been walking with attitude... and takes herself
  back to her room ...
Lovely Lady...
