Rebecca received a phone call from Noel ... Koala on the ground at Middle Rock Holliday Park ...  I was  going to meet her there... but... Just as I was passing ouR house she rang to say she had him and was on her way back ... quickest rescue ever I was thinking... As it turns out there were two koalas up a tree ( sounds like the beginning of a story book)... They woke the people in the park at 6-00am with their bellowing and the two of them had been up there all day ... until one was found on the ground... no one saw him fall...  there was a clothesline under the tree, near a metal annex and the line had koala fur on it ...... safe to say he probably took the quickest way down .... When Rebecca got there she saw people standing around and asked if he had gone back up the tree...... No! There he was safely under a basket with the managers coat over it ....Yes!!!.... The managers name ? Brian ......even though he was an old boy ...said " I think not old....more HANDSOME.." When we got Brian home he was like a drowned rat..... Weight 6.1 kg, very boney but doing really good big boy pellets....No obvious injury... No chip... We dried him off put the warming pads with him, lots of leaf and let him be..... ? exhausted He has sore eyes ... Don said his eyelashes were turning in and touching the conjunctiva as he had lost so much weight... He wasn't too interested in leaf..  He spends a lot of time sleeping/hiding from us ( as you would expect from an old man who has never been touched by those strange white monsters)... Took him to Don Monday .. older boy, lots of muscle loss..... gave him a steroid injection, see if we can get him eating a put on some weight and he could have another season or two ...i.e. if you can find a place without another male.........or.... if we cant get him eating ............Up till now the latter looks more likely......Fran...

Just a short note to let you know how Brian is going .... As you can see by the photos ...good would be the answer...After he realized that we were not going to let him die in peace he started to eat leaf ... He would like it if we would place it directly in front of him so that he doesn't have to lift his arms.. but will "if he has tooooo"( grumble, grumble). He is waiting for us morning and night.... "have you got the pumpkin ?.. let me hold you and see that you don't have it hidden ....."

Took him to the vet yesterday, Alex .... she micro chipped him listened to his heart etc. she commented that his back legs did not have very good muscle tone.....  He doesn't move around much in the cage , but does if there is nice leaf for him to move too..... So even though the plan was to release we decided that it would be more beneficial for him to stay an extra week so that he can work those back legs in the rehab... We put him in this morning... seemed happy to climb that extra little bit to get some nice tips, and didn't seem at all worried about the change...Eat then straight to sleep... Our hope is that he will do a bit of walking and climbing over this next week... but we wont be surprised if he just sits and eats....  Brian is putting his all into it..... lol When I went to get him out of the cage this morning he told me to --------- (go away)  first time so he must be feeling a bit better ...
