Helga
Adult female, hit by several cars last night on Lemontree Passage road, Tanilba Bay.
She has had a big day. Handled by a human, out of her environment and in pain. Thankyou Dr Katie from Noah's Ark Veterinary Services , Medowie, for ...having a look at her, even though she was not on her best lady like behaviour. I think we needed a few moments to compose ourselves after!!! Her xrays have been sent to Dr Don for a second opinion as we can't believe she has gotten away with only grazing and soft tissue damage after such a terrible accident.
Her pain relief has kicked in and she is now eating. Fewww!!
Helga can't seem to hold her hind quarters up atm, so we are keeping a very close eye on her.
There are very few Koalas in her area these days. Lets hope we can get her back home and ready to have some lovely babies.
Will keep you all posted on her progress.

Helga is in the cage! She trashed her cot last night, ate all her leaf, fighting fit this morning. She has climbed around, no problems. Still keeping a close eye on her. She can come back in tonight if she needs too. She loves her supplementary feed and the eye is healing well. Too Fantastic for words!! I'll get some pics to you all later. I was too excited watching her before to take any. Yes hopeless case of love with this girl!!! SIM

Helga went to visit Dr Katherine at Noah's Ark Veterinary Services, this morning for a second opinion on her xrays after being hit by a car on Friday night. NO FRACTURES! Unbelievable! Her grazed eye is healing well and if this continues with no problems to the eye, she should be able to go home on the weekend.
I'm doing a happy dance!! Woohoo. Sim

Helga's eye is looking good this morning. She is loving her supplementary feeds, just about pouncing on me when I go near her. She is trashing her cage and trying to get out.
Koalas suffer from captive stress easily. This can make them sick. We take a very holistic view to their care. The mental wellbeing of the animal is very important. Our fantastic vets make very careful decisions as to their care and captivity.
Helga is seeing Dr Don again on Tuesday. She is letting us know she is ready to go home.

Helga has finally gone home. Today she was released onto the Tanilba Bay Golf Course by our Data Officer and my sister Laura. We had a lovely tour by golf cart. There is some amazing habitat there. Helga had been really stressed in captivity and bounded out of the basket and up the tree in no time. Well done girl! Stay safe. Sim (6 photos)
