HONEY BUNCH 19/8/2013

Picture
Hi Guy's. Got called out to Divers Luck Vineyard last night to get
this
little girl hit by a car. She was bleeding from the mouth and nose. She
is a
4kg sub adult with no chip of course. She sat quetly in the basket
overnight
and was bright eyed and full of attitude this morning. She bit and
screeched
when put in a clean basket and because she was trying to chew my
thumb off I
didn't get a look at her back legs. We went to Don this morning
and he
looked  in her mouth, no injuries the blood was comimg from her nose.
But
when she  tried to turn away from Don, her left leg stayed pointing in
the
wrong  direction. So I have left her with Don for X-Rays under a
light
sedation. If  the Femur is big enough Don will pin it, if not it will
have to
be plaster.  Lets hope for a pin, so much easier for her. Will let
you know
what happens.  Cheers Sue

She saw Don this morning, Blood coming from nose, mouth and jaw OK. She has
a
fractured lEft femur though, which is bad news.  It's quite nasty and unstable. Don has put a cast on for a
  week
to see if it will stabilize. He will reX-Ray next Wed, and if it is
  still
unstable he will have to put a plate and pins. He is trying to avoid
  that
because of the risk of infection. At present she has gotten herself out
  of
the basket and is sitting on logs in cot, this has been OK'd by Don.
  Cheers SUE

Hi Guy's. Little Miss Honey Bunch refuses to stay in the basket so she
  is
sitting quite well on logs in the cot.  Sue

The little girl went back to the
vet today to have her fracture re X-Rayed to  see if it had stabilised in the
cast. Unfortunately it hadn't so Don did his Orthopaedic magic and inserted a
pin down the centre and put two screws in. This  will make it as good as new,
Don is really pleased with the result and himself.  The X-Ray post surgery was
quite spectacular. She went really well through the  operation and sedation, but
got very cold by the end of it all. Photos are of  her warming up afterwards.
She is now to have a couple of days complete rest  which will be interesting as
she is a bit of a busy body. Then back to Don for a  check on Friday. Sue

Honey Bunch is doing well. She saw Don on Friday for a check and he is
happy with her. She has a little bit of swelling in the left foot because of
the plaster and I have to massage that. She doesn't like that at all,
butotherwise she is eating really well and hasn't as yet attempted to get
out of the basket. Sue

Hi Guy's. Honey Bunch saw Don yesterday because her foot was a bit
swollen.Don adjusted the cast because it was tight behind her knee. She is
nowallowed to sit on logs as long as she doesn't go nuts and try and
runaround. She's always hungry which is great. She doesn't have to go back
tosee Don for three weeks, the pin will have been in for 4 weeks by then sue

Hi Guy's, this little girl has been in care 3 weeks! She has been in the
cot all this time and is getting a bit sick of the whole thing. She has
doneeverything she has been told! Don said to rest for a couple of days
afterthe pin was inserted so she stayed put in the basket for a whole week.
Sheis giving the leg every opportunity to heal properly. Don said she could
siton logs so we thought a change of scenery might cheer her up. Noel has
putsome logs and water tubes on the floor of a cage, so there is nowhere
tofall. She stayed down low for 5mins then up she went! She now has leaf
upand down. She is quite amazing when she climbs with the cast on, she is
veryconfident
  Cheers Sue

Little Honeybunch is sitting in her cage not causing any problems. She
manages just fine with the cast on and can walk across the cross logs
without killing herself. We have given up on the low logs as she
refused to use them. The pin has been in 3 weeks today and there are another 3 weeks
to go. She is not on any treatment, all we have to do is feed her and
that is a pleasure. Cheers Sue

Hi everyone,

Here's an update on Honey Bunch, the beautiful
young female who was run over on Nelson Bay Rd on 19 August
near  Divers Luck Winery.  Her left femur was broken.  After 5.5 weeks the
stainless  steel rod and cast was removed last Friday.  As you can see from the
pictures  she is improving but still limping badly.  She has an appointment with
the vet  on Tuesday morning to have the stitches removed.  Once she is moving
around the  cage better she will need time in the rehab facility before she can
be  released.

Honey Bunch is a gorgeous placid girl who seems
not  to be too stressed because she is not very mobile.  She doesn't like
pumpkin -  one of the few - so she has lost a little weight.

I'll send you another update soon.

Honey Bunch has had a busy day
today. She moved into the rehab about 1.30, after she had checked out
everything  under the gunya and had a bite to eat she went for a walk. She tried
many  different ways to get out (see photos)....... sitting in the corner but
that  didn't work, climbing the crosslog that was on the ground but that didn't
work,  she tried asking Jay for help but that didn't work either so she gave up
and  went to have more to eat. She has been moving around all afternoon, she's
had a  couple of little accidents  but she seems to have settled down a little
  bit now.
We haven't given her the tree
yet,  maybe in a few days.

We have had the OK to release HB
over a week ago but she wouldn't come down out of the tree when we were
around.... i.e. until yesterday ... she couldn't work out what I had done ..
but  thought she could jump to the tree anyway hence the washing basket ... when
I  had a good look at her leg wound it wasn't as good as I thought so we did a
quick trip into Don ... He said ALL OK
We released her at Michael
Cottons  ... he and his daughter Amy led to way.... Carmel came with us so there
was a  small group trekking through the bush... right up to our shoulders...
  ...
We found a big tree with good
tips  ... Michael and Amy held the basket as HB climbed out onto the tree.. main
trunk  was quite big and the rain added to the degree of difficulty but she
managed  quite well ... not a long way up there was a fork and she was in her
element ...  She watched as we walked away ... wonder what they are thinking
  ....

Well done Sue, Carmel and of
  course Don .....NOAHS ARK VET
Aunty Fran....
