Nelson bay veterinarian DR Don Hudson has been rewarded for his volunteer work and dedication to native animals with a international award.
Don and his wife Ilona own veterinary practices at Nelson bay and Medowie and won the international Fund For animal Welfare outstanding contribution award.
Don treats about 80 koalas a year that have become injured on roads or affected by disease .
Chlamydia is rampant at the moment the species.
"There are a lot of vets who do a lot of work with native animals" he said
"I guess i get recognized a lot more for my work because its with one of Australia`s great treasures
