13/2/2013 JAYT

Picture
Jay T decided that he liked it
at  Aunty Frans soooo much last time that he thought he would visit again
  ....
If you remember HE WAS HIT BY A CAR Anna Bay side of the Boat Harbour round about ...
He had a hairline fracture of
his  Left wrist.....
This time he was sitting stunned
in the bush on the side of the road .... Vic and his wife saw him and went to
take a photo then realized something was wrong ...
Cherry from Wonderers RETREAT was
passing  and also stopped... AND rang me
...
Small amount  OF blood on his lips ...
small laceration under chin .... obvious injury to Left arm (again) this time
  fractured mid shaft radius ....
Tendons Right back leg ...
unable  to move or (obviously) weight bear.... ( lol bear..) Not funny ???? Oh
  well.....
OFF TO Don NOAHS ARK VET was worried about
Diaphragmatic Hernia ....  as he could hear some noises in his chest.....but
  x-ray was clear...
He had the X-Ray without
sedation  ... I had given him Dex at 11-30 and he was somewhat flat ... so
didn't put up  much of a fight...
So the plan is ...... reduce the
fracture on Friday, plaster and sitting in the cot for a boy until arm and back
  leg heal ....
He has put on weight 6.8 on
release 7.3 now...... Good Boy .......

Jay T has had an interesting day
  .....
Went to noahs ark  vet to have his
broken  arm plastered ... Rebecca and I have had trouble controlling his pain
and he  will not use either arm to reach for leaf ... We know that it is the
Left arm  that is broken but we were sure something was going on with his Right
side....  His heart rate is up around the 140-160 and his respiration shallow
rapid and it  is obviously painful .... On Wednesday he was not well enough to
be sedated so  all the X-rays were hurried ... today... we found # pelvis
(undisplaced) and 5  ribs ( one or two markedly)... on the Right side  ... he also has two burns one on his side one
under his arm .... Don said "he has had a fair wack".
He kept dropping his oxygen
saturation while he was asleep even though Don only gave him enough for a
"small  girl".... koala that is .... So we sat and gave him oxygen ... Sats
never  wonderful on room air but after about an hour we decided that, that was
as good  as it was going to get while his ribs are sore ...thank god they did
not pierce  his lung ....
He woke a little a few times at
the vet and couldn't get comfortable ... He winces even when he is asleep
and gives  a little cry  poor sore boy..
One good thing is ..... he wont
want to move around too much with his pelvis and ribs so we wont have to fight
for a while to let him out ....
...Fran.....

JAYT IS MAKING A SLOW RECOVERY .
THIS IS TO BE EXSPECTED WITH SO MANY INJURIES BUT IS MAKING SMALL IMPROVMENTS AND OBVIOUSLY ISNT IN AS MUCH PAIN

15/3/2013

Picture
Jay-T is doing well..

He had his plaster changer last
  Friday .... His bottom
is tender and we have made him a water bed which seems to be working...

Is able to use his Right arm (5
#  rib side) a little more ....
Can put some weight on his Right
leg but only for a short time ....
Left arm plaster doesn't stay
clean for long .... hangs down between his legs most of the
time as it is much to heavy for him to lift ...
He is very tolerant, doesn't
much  like his bottom being washed, and bites the foam when he is not happy ...
never  ever at us ...
We were four weeks post MOTER ACCIDENT last
  Wednesday ... FRAN

JAY.T HAS BEEN IN CARE BEFORE BELOW IS THAT  STORY

JAYT 6/9/2012

Picture
On Thursday evening at approx 6-30 I received a phone call from Sue... koala hit by a car on Gan Gan Rd.

Rang the lady,Zena to find out exactly where... I was told that the koala ran into the back of her car.. then ran into the bush.. Anna bay side of the Boat Harbour round about !!  (My goodness... another one !!  We have got to move that round about... . We found him in a small strip of bush very close to the road .. .

He was in a small bush too high for us to reach but as trees go not that high ... problem was it was on a very steep incline and the tree was surrounded by that rubbish type of bush and vine .. you know with lantana mixed in to make it exciting .. He looked OK no obvious signs of head injury though had a laceration on his Left back leg... We decided that this task probably needed some extra hands so we called for back-up...

It was not an easy rescue the koala only jumped to another trunk once ... the difficulty was more staying upright on the slope and then, when he was in the basket ..trying to keep it level while extracting said koala from net....

When we got him home we found it was Jay T (named after ......our web master) 29/1/2011 He had infected eyes. He has also had two relocates  17-10-11-and 19-11-11 these were both near the Boat Harbour round about..

So it seems he has hit the car quite hard and as noted before has a number of deep lacerations on his inner back leg....When he tried to walk his left front leg gave way.. so unable to weight bear... There was no obvious malformation to this leg.

Eating leaf but only pulling it down with Right front leg.. if he couldn't get it with this leg then he just left it ...
I would like to thank the Zena  for calling us... I would hate to think how he would have managed in the bush .... if you look at some of the photos you can see he is protecting the left arm...

Don Hudson Noahs Arc Vet took full body x-rays. They showed a hairline fracture of his left wrist ... Don has decided to leave it and see how he progresses..

Sometimes he can put a little weight on the leg and it holds up ... other times it just gives way completely... so its a wait and see thing.....

I would like to thank the lady for calling us... I would hate to think how he would have managed in the bush .... if you look at some of the photos you can see he is protecting the left arm...

JAYT LEFT FRONT LEG  INJURED VERY CAREFULL WALKING BUT GOOD PROGRESS

17/9/2012

JAYT IS IMPROOVING STILL HAS SORE FRONT ARM AND GRAZE ON BACK LEG BUT AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE VIDEO IS STARTING TO USE BOTH AGIAN

25/9/2012

Picture
Jay T..... He is improving slowly, still guarding his Left legs and when he walks across the crosslogs puts as much weight on the right side as possible which creates a limping effect.... though he is settling (as you would hope after this length of time.. coming up to 3 weeks), he just is not comfortable... There has been evidence that he has come to the floor, looking for the "out" button no doubt.. 'cause he knows where the door is, but I haven't seen this.... maybe he will be when we move him to the rehab he might be a little happier ...lol, or not.... The wounds on his back leg are looking clean and are now dry....  ..... funny boy.. So in a nutshell shouldn't be long before he goes into the rehab..   ...Fran...

28/9/2012

Picture
Hi, jay T told me it was going to be hot today... note the poses trying to sleep .... he found a good one where he was laying along the logs ... Jay T has been looking for the out button each night of late, he is still favoring that arm but I think it is almost time for him to go into the rehab, we are into our fourth week now and he is getting to be a crabby boy at times.. As you can see his leg wounds are nice and dry......I would just like to see him walk before we transfer him.. We had put him on a diet of Swampy and Mel as he had, had a tummy problem.... last night we gave him Scoparia and he was so happy he held on to it with both hands... funny boy....

JAYTS REACTION TO TREATMENT FOR SORE LEG

JAYT INTO SUNRICE REHAB

10/10/2012

Picture
We moved him into the rehab a week ago to see how he went... over did the walking on the first day but after that climbed the uprights no problem... A couple of nights ago Didge came to visit.. This didn't make Jay T very happy and he did lots of walking and climbing the taller uprights ( gave his wrist a good workout) to rub salt into the wound, Didge decided to stay for supper and helped himself to some swampy from the leaf shed  lol For some reason Jay T didn't like the thought of climbing the pine tree... ? because the bark can give way..... Until, that is,  the day we decided he could go home.... I went out at 6-30am and he is up the top , he continues to make me smile with his antics... He spent the entire day up there... I thought he would have to come down to eat, sometime... At 5pm I started to get worried that he would miss his going home party, so I got some beautiful Nicholi and crushed it with my hands.... I stood " up wind"... it took a little while but you know the saying " you can get a man through his stomach"  well it works for men koalas also... down he came straight to the Nicholi .. good boy. Wasn't to sure about going in the basket probably thought he was going back to Don ..... We released him in what has become my favorite place of late as we have released Roma, MG, Eli & Regi . There are some really nice food trees and it gives them some breathing space before they get into trouble again. I chose a tree with nice tips and many trunks... only problem was that it had one very big trunk at the base... He did have a little difficulty and at times looked like he was doing a spread eagle .. He was managing until the bark started to give way so I supported his bottom with the bitey.. he said "thank you" had a little rest then off he went .... when he got to the smaller trunks he was a very happy boy, did a bit of bounding and two jumps ...... wrist perfect !..... As you can see in the photos he went up as far as he could possibly go... nice tips, good picking Aunty Fran...
