kiara

10/3/2015

Kiara’s leg where the pin was has been infected for quite a while, while the pin was in and after. We were given the ok to stop Baytril after about 50 days or so! The infection was obviously not completely gone and reared it’s ugly head again. Back on Baytril and she grew a golf ball size boil. Dr Don instructed me to squeeze it, gross OMG and all that. Lauren and I were just horrified, but, Vet instructions. (omg omg omg). Won’t give the details, use your imagination, or not. She is unable to put weight on her leg, but the swelling has reduced dramatically. Today Don gave her a good look over, between swipes from Kiara’s claws and teeth in my gloves. He is very happy with the progress and more confident the bone infection will be able to be resolved. We are continuing Baytril. She is now day 65 in care and still a long way to go. Little darling is still hard to feed and find leaf that suits. Her taste changes daily!! Lauren is doing well with her training although Kiara gives her the odd heart starter! No blood yet, she saves that for me. Sammi is also lending a hand . More soon Sim

Kiara has had a visit to Stacey and Ilona for the beginning of her rehab treatment. Poor little darling was so stressed, we have decided on a weekly video review in which her movement will be assessed and tasks set for the following week. I will continue the massage treatment to soften the scar tissue and help the muscles slide well. In just a couple of days she is able to place the leg where she wants to, but weight bearing is a chore. Kiara is off her food. She has been through a lot in a short space of time. Ilona said to stop the antibiotics, only a day early, but it has been 48 days already. Tonight she is getting a bit of charcoal, in case her tummy is a bit upset. If she has another “off” night, we will hit the poo shakes. We haven’t gone 7 weeks for it to go pear shaped now. I brought her some lovely Terra from Medowie, hope that does the trick.

Kiara went to Dr Don today. Her pin is out and I am happy dancing! She has been so cranky and upset, it was breaking my heart.    She is still groggy, but a good sleep should see her up and about. Don was very impressed with her cast. He said it was the cleanest he has ever seen. I can’t take the credit, she is a bit fussy how she does her business. He gave me the pin and cast, for show and tell, lol. Her wound had a lot of puss that he drained, but it was not showing a bacterial infection. We will keep the antibiotics going for a week just to cover her. Ilona and Stacey will start the physio work on Tuesday. I don’t think Kiara intends to wait till then. Kiara has been a really fussy eater and I’m hoping that being in the cage might give her a boost. Tomorrow if she is up to it, she will go into the cage with ground logs only and hay on the floor for padding. I’m sure in no time she will want some climbing logs.

Kiara is giving Lauren and I a hard time. She is not eating well and Carmel, Lauren, Donna, Sue and myself have been scouring the country side  for possible tempting leaf. Lauren, she has eaten some of your surprise leaf tonight. Donna brought me some stringy bark as well tonight. She has got herself comfortable in the cot in the nest arrangement and is finally taking her feeds. She continues to be a sweet thing, but you can’t help but feel for the poor darling. We may yet have to do a drive out west to find something to tempt her, Jacqui if we do, we will bring you something for Azzi as well. I had the pleasure of a goodbye visit to the vet with Carmel and her big boy Benny today, he was going home tonight. Hope it went well Carmel.

Kiara has been to see Dr Don today and has  had an xray to ensure her pin is in place and all is looking good. She now is sporting the latest in cast fashion. Even feeling unwell a girl deserves to look her best. She is up on her thrown happily dining on Nicollii awaiting Lauren to arrive for her evening supper of Divetalac alla pumpkin!   Great job everyone. Sim

sad news when I came down to feed Kiara. Baby in bottom of basket, passed away. It was always a long shot, but mum lives to breed again. Kiara is a bit distressed and agitated. We will be keeping a close eye on her, poor mummy. S

Kiara had her pin in today and Don is very happy with the result. Back again Fri afternoon for a quick check. She needs to stay immobile (ha ha), she drags herself out of the basket to wee. Needs to get over that! The bandaging is up high to not interfere with her pouch. We are unsure how bub is atm, but time will tell. Now for the long road to recovery. About 4 weeks and don will take the pin out all being well. Sim

This beautiful lady has had a rough couple of days. Her story is still a little unclear, Murray forms will be done when more info comes to light tonight. She was transported to a vet in Singleton from outlying Upper Rouchel in a Coles freezer bag, then to a carer in Boulder, to rescuer Mick Farley, to our own Sammi, to me...... She had a suspected broken leg, She has been treated with tender care and wrapped in love, especially with the discovery of a precious pinky. Kiara definitely had a problem with her left hind leg and had a visit to Dr Katie and Dr Don today. Xrays have shown a terrible break to her femur and she will have it pinned in surgery tomorrow. We are having a cocktail of pain relief and lots of sub cut fluids. We are hoping the baby survives the operation, but the chances are not good. Lauren will be joining in the care of Kiara as she will be a cot, cage and rehab patient. Cross everything, this pair will need all the support they can get. More news as it comes... Sim
