KOBI 13/9/2013

Picture
This is Kobi. Rescued at 6am, 3km down Stockton Beach by Charles
Hutchen a  professional FisHERMAN. He was in a fish box with a hessian bag over
him in the back of a tray top ute :-). He was actually in the wash with
water going over his head at times. So he has been to see Karleah to make
sure he hadn't inhaled any water. He got the all clear and is staying with
Aunty Carmel for the weekend to make sure he does all the things a koala is
supposed to do, His coat is full of sand so his weightof 6.5kg is
probably includes a kilo of wet sand. He is very hungry andexhausted. Poor
boy. Cheers Sue

Kobi is doing very well.  He's done a huge wee and 32 pellets so he wasn't

on the beach for very long thank goodness. He's eaten a huge amount and is
now sleeping.  I've brushed a lot of sand out of his coat but there's still

loads more.  We'll just give him a little rest before he's released again -

Carmel

He was kept in care for two nights for rest and
observation, then released  between rain showers on 15 September.  A happy story
that ended well thanks to  Charles Hutchen.

Kobi has grown a lot in the last year.  He was
last  rescued trapped in a car port near One Mile Beach weighing 4.4kg.  He was
6.4kg  on release.  He was 6.5kg on rescue so I know that he ate well because
all that  sand must have weighed more than 100gms.

Let's hope he finds some habitat to his liking
this  time.

kind regards,
Carmel Northwood

KOBI HAS BEEN RESCUED BEFORE BELOW IS THAT STORY

KOBI 1/9/2012

Picture
Introducing  KOBI. Sue rang at 7-10 this morning, a koala at Echo Beach has been on the ground all night, they think disorientated. When we arrived Garry was waiting for us, he said that there was a small walkway between the house and garage and it was sitting there. Yes, he was sitting there as cute as a button unable to get out as on one end the gate was locked (he had tried that) and the other was blocked by bits of broken surfboards  that had fallen onto the path in the strong wind last night. We moved the surfboards,  let him sniff us, picked him up and took him home. How easy was that. He is a little 4.4 kg male named after Garry's granddaughter. He was the perfect house guest, used his manners, didn't try to grab or bite and was very tolerant when I had to pull a myriad of ticks off him.  he was falling asleep, poor mite had had a big day, so we decided to let him sleep in the basket and release later in the afternoon.
