LYDIA 15/6/2013

Hi Guy's. This is a little girl rescued at 8.30am this morning from the
car
park at Horizons Golf Club. She was sitting on the ground drinking furiously
from a puddle and had been seen wandering around the car park for
about half
an hour. Her tongue is swollen and protruding and appears to be
missing the
tip. It looks like road trauma, but amazingly she is able to eat
in a
fashion. Her pouch is empty and she has no chip, so I have called her
Lydia.
She goes to the vet this morning. Will update you after we have had a
good
look in her mouth. Sue

Hi
Everyone. Miss Lydia was an angel at the vet. She saw Dr Kahlea McGuire and let
her look at her tongue (sort of). She has lacerated the distal part of her
tongue and it has an uneven margin, there is a small amount of necrotic tissue
in the centre of it which Kahlea thinks will fall off. I gave her Dex when she
first arrived and believe it or not in these photos the swelling has decreased
by about a third of what it was like at rescue.
She
is a calm and delightful little girl which is unusual for someone so young. She
just loves the Bonjela! We put her in a cage when we got home from the vet
because she is quite lively. Every time we took the lid off the basket she
thought it was time to get out, so not a good candidate for a cot. Kahlea and I
both think her injuries are typical of MV trauma, she also has a graze on her
left ear, but no other obvious injuries. She was only 50mt from Salamander
Way, so an easy walk if she had been HIT BY A CAR. She is eating her head off!!! Amazing
what a bit of Dex and Bonjela can do. When she eats the tongue stays inside the
mouth. She does drop a bit of her leaf, but I’m sure most of it is getting
down. If I didn’t tell you in last email she is 5.6kg. Cheers Sue

When she
was first rescued we thought that the swollen tongue was a result of
MV
trauma, but when she saw Don last Monday he thought it looked more like
she
had licked something caustic that had burnt the tip of her tongue. But
the
treatment is the same anyway. Her tongue has a black necrotic tip on
it
which is gradually sloughing off. She is able to get her tongue
completely
inside her mouth and keep it there now, so the swelling has gone.
She is
coming to the floor and drinking from her bowl each night, which is a bit of
a concern.
Her personality has changed
considerably in the last couple of days. She has
gone from a calm, quiet and
easy to manage girl to a pumpkin demanding
maniac. she now puts her Bonjela on
her tongue herself! She snatches the cotton
bud off me and jams it in her
mouth and sucks on it. When all the Bonjela is
gone she holds the cotton bud
up, I put more on and she repeats the process.
The supplementary feed is
hysterical. And she follows you around the cage
trying to grab you while you
are cleaning. She got hold of my jacket this
morning and wouldn't let go so
I had to walk out of it and leave her holding
it. She is just gorgeous! Will
update you after her next vet visit. Cheers

LYDIA SUPPLEMENTARY FEED BY CARER SUE 24/6/2013

Miss Lydia went to see Karleah today. Her tongue is completely healed and
she
has gained 600grams, she is now 6.2kg. We discussed the drinking problem
she
has and Karleah examined her kidneys manually. There was no obvious
problem
detected and no pain involved when the kidneys were palpated. She
has a
micro chip and I will be releasing her in a couple of days. She was a
lovely
girl at the vet as you can see by the photos. Sue
