Mia Female 5.0 kg
(Ibi's mum)
Otis Male Back
baby approx: 800 grams
Well Miss Mia is at it again,
decided she would walk across Salamander Way at about 5-30 in the evening, with
her back baby
They were hit by a car. She was
lucky, they did not get run over by the tires but was seen to go under the
center. She had to be literally pulled by the legs to free her and her joey. As
luck would have it Rebecca was passing at the same time and was assisted by a
young fellow to do this. The lady that ran over her said she had no where to go
to try and avoid them. Rebecca sent her to go and sit in her car until we got
things sorted. We were worried even then that she should be driving home, very
shaken.
There are were no obvious wounds
on either of them and Mia was hungry. Baby, "Otis" has some flattened fur in
about 3 places ( Sue said it could still be "baby" fur) so we kept them both
quiet in the cot over night..
Mia's record goes like
this:
* 10-11-12 Rescued by Rebecca and
I in a hedge just passed the Corlette shop, Weighed: 4400 grams
* 12-3-13 Rescued by Jay and I in
hedge in a pool area with a dog on Nelson Bay side of Dutchies beach,
with a pinky released Worimi
Drive
* Rescued shortly after that by
Sue and Noel not far from Worimi drive, in a hedge Pinky
larger.
* 31-10-13 Koala and Back Baby had
to be relocated as they were removing a tree they slept in almost all of the
time. Stayed in our rehab until tree was felled. Had to stay longer than
anticipated as rain put the date back. Baby - female Ibi
* 7-11-13 Released in Salamander
Fire Trail.
*Took about two weeks for her to
find her way back home, with Ibi, had to be assisted across the road outside St
Phillips this time Simone was passing.
I will say one thing she knows
when the carers will be around to help her.
Hers was the first pinky I felt
and then to see baby Ibi was so very special. Now she has a boy one ... Otis...(named after the boy in the plane,
MH 17, as requested by the gentleman that gave us the donation for the vet
bill).
After two days of observation Mia
and Otis went to see Dr Karleah at Noah's Ark Vet, she gave them both a really
good going over. Mia was a perfect lady. Otis put his head in his mums ear when
he tried to hide obviously he won a heart. He didn't move at
all, didn't even give a yip when he had his microchip done, good
boy.
Both OK for release.
I went and saw Michelle, the lady
who had the tree that was felled in her yard. I couldn't remember if there was
another tree branch crossing her fence, there was and they were only to pleased
to help. We would have to lift the basket high but I thought Mia would do the
rest 'cause she was home !
Rebecca was worried that Mia might
not manage herself, so scaled the fence (in a single bound) as I passed the
basket and precious cargo up to her she then held the basket on the fence and
against the tree. Mia was all ready to go when Rebecca told her to stop until
Aunty Fran had the camera ready, so she did and then didn't know when she was
allowed to go so required a small hand under the bottom. Other than that every
thing went off perfectly. Watched by Michelle, her family and the older couple
next door.
They were told many times not to
go on the road again. I passed on a message from Sue. That if she really had
to then she was only allowed to between 8.00-9.30 or 2.30 - 4.00 and she
had go where the big white lines were drawn on the road then wait till the
lolli- pop person told her she could go !!! Goodness I hope she was
listening.
Stay Safe Beautiful Mia and keep
your babies safe.
I was told that a smaller (than
Mia) koala was in that tree two days before. Ibi ??? .
