Roma is a little girl koala (4500 grams) that one of our new carers has been watching at Anna Bay School... Monday afternoon she heard her coughing... Roma had a stained bottom but it looked more like bark stain than wet bottom... (wrong..)
She had a very gentle, well controlled rescue.. text book one might say..
On examining her she had a most unpleasant odour and the fur on her bottom was that matted it was like dread locks...So into a nice warm tub for a wash, she did like that(most of them do) but on the way out she decided a bite might be in order....Ouch!). Her eyes were clear..
She was started on supplementary feeds she said "I will lick it, but don't put that syringe thing anywhere near the side of my mouth".. lol.. she is getting more tolerant of human things.. She worked out very quickly where the door was and will come down while I am sweeping to get to it, not scared in that way at all... bet she is the brightest in her class..
Told Don Hudson noahs ark vet what she thought on Wed when he held onto the "handles".. (Don holds onto the ears to look at her teeth to age her).. With a smile Don said he wanted her to have 14 days of Baytril (antibiotic), but if she was taking chunks out of us 7 days would do... I tell her the mosquitoes are big over here .. she doesn't kick up much fuss at all..
So she will be with us for at least 3 weeks..

Took Roma to noahs ark vet today.... getting her into the basket was yet another interesting challenge... luckily I had Simones help and we rose to the occasion... when we got her in she went feral, biting the foam, which had been pulled out within seconds of her being within striking distance.... at times the basket was acting as if we had a 15kg male koala on board not a cute little girl one....

The most gorgeous girl, Roma was released today... She did kick up a bit of a fuss when we had to put her in the basket... again... but this time did not trash it... she sat like a quiet girl. We waited in the vet waiting room with some dogs... still a good girl... Took the basket lid off , she had a look around... not too sure she liked what she saw, then Don came in with the biggest needle she had ever seen... for her reaction look at the HKPS web site ..... She bounded up the tree and did a jump across to the trunk then she just hung and hung.. .. We decided to move, she then did a slow motion climb up to the nearest fork.... that is where we left her... I gave her the usual talk... dont think she listened.... As we walked away i was saying to Sue how beautiful it was there and the only other thing a girl could want was a Nicholi tree..... guess what.. they have one !!! I know one little girl who will think she is in paradise.... ...Fran...
